Hands, Hilda - Church Embroidery - Ancient and Modern
I wrote recently how pleased I was to find a copy of this book. Then "Anonymous" put in a comment that the book is available on-line!

Thankyou Anonymous! Now we can all share in the beautiful beautiful designs and detailed text.
Much padding and couching going on.......
This isn't a proper review - I'm not awake enough for that - Mary Corbet reviews it at http://www.needlenthread.com/2007/03/goldwork-sampler-pattern.html.
The patterns! The patterns!

'Anonymous' here (sorry about that, I didn't understand the other options. My name is Saskia).
One can spend many happy hours browsing archive.org.
Doing a search for Grace Christie, for example, leads to these:

If you want to be occupied a serious amount of time, do a search for 'Embroidery' :)

Oh, this is a book that I could just sit and look at all day. So pretty. By the way, I love your slide show...........such lovely sitching! blessings,Kathleen
So much that's fascinating is available online these days. I think we could easily spend more time looking than stitching!
Thank you for telling me about this book Megan. I absolutely am in love with those patterns too...and so so glad it is for free.
I'm off to see if that site has anything on tinsel embroidery...Thanks!
I'm so envious! I get an error when I try to open any of the book formats. And I'm dying to see more of the patterns. What you've shared with us is lovely. Thanks for the tip - I'll try it again tomorrow.
